Lake Learning Tours

“Lake Learning Tours” returning for a summer encore

ESLA will again offer its dues-paid members “Lake Learning Tours” this summer.

Lake Learning Tours - people on a boat listening to the lake biologistThe 2-hour pontoon tours aim to enlighten members about our waters with a focus on water quality, biology, watershed facts and figures, plus some history. Last summer’s inaugural tours were a hit with those who joined the fun.

Our lake biologist Samantha Ogle will lead the conversations and a board member may join in as well. You’ll be in the safe hands of our certified captain Teddy Shaw at the helm.

We haven’t set dates yet, but the tours will be midweek in July and August aboard a pontoon in the Elk Rapids Marina on Elk Lake rental fleet. The marina, ESLA’s top business supporter, provides the boats free of charge for the tours. We ask members who join us to help make a nominal contribution to help cover fuel expense and our biologist’s time.

As we firm up dates, we’ll publicize our plans in newsletters or email blasts. Each trip will have an 8-passenger limit. To allow greater participation, we’ll limit requests to two passengers per household or membership per trip. Children must be at least 10 and accompanied by a parent or guardian.
