Lake Learning Tours

“Lake Learning Tours” returning this summer

Lake Learning Tours - people on a boat listening to the lake biologist

During each 2-hour lake learning tour, participants venture out onto the water with our knowledgeable biologist, Samantha, and certified captain, Teddy Shaw, to explore key aspects of lake ecology. Samantha provides insightful and easy-to-understand explanations on a wide range of topics, including plankton sampling, local geology, loon behavior, aquatic plant identification, and the impact of invasive species. She also discusses the importance of maintaining healthy shorelines and what we can all do to protect the lake for future generations.

The tours will be June 25, July 16, July 30, August 20 aboard a pontoon from the Elk Rapids Marina on Elk Lake rental fleet. The marina, ESLA’s top business supporter, provides the boats free of the normal rental charge for the tours. We ask members who join us to consider making a nominal 10$ donation to help cover fuel expense and our biologist’s time.

Each trip will have an 8-passenger limit. To allow greater participation, we’ll limit requests to two passengers per household or membership per trip. Children must be at least 10 and accompanied by a parent or guardian.
