DESCRIPTION:Our popular Lake Learning Tours are back this season—and they’re free! You just have to register. \nJoin our lake biologist for a relaxed\, on-the-water experience exploring the basics of lake ecology. We’ll cover aquatic plants\, shoreline health\, invasive species\, plankton\, loons\, water quality and more! You’ll also hear about current and upcoming lake projects and how you can get involved. \nWe depart from the Elk Rapids Marina and travel through the Elk River into Elk Lake aboard a generously donated pontoon boat. Children ages 8 and up are welcome with an accompanying adult.

SUMMARY:Autumn Olive Removal with GTRLC
DESCRIPTION:One of our region’s most aggressive invasive species\, autumn olive\, has been living at the Schuler Farm for far too long! Join staff from GTRLC and CAKE CISMA in removing this shrubby invader from a conservation easement property. \nThe Basics: \nGTRLC will teach you everything you need to know about tool use\, safety\, and how to remove autumn olive. No prior experience is necessary! This event will be moderately strenuous\, with participants using hand loppers to remove branches\, and often bending over to grab and drag branches. Please take your time and work at your own pace. \nWe will be removing autumn olive with hand tools and hauling brush into piles to decompose. \nWhat should I bring? \n\nDress for the weather! Always check the forecast in advance\nLeather gloves\, long sleeves\, and long pants are strongly recommended – Autumn Olive has thorns!\nSturdy\, close-toed shoes that can handle some mud\nBring a reusable water bottle and some snacks\nSunscreen and bug spray for your safety and comfort\n\nAs this takes place on private property\, only registered participants will be sent the exact meeting location.
